Did you think sending postcards was dull? Think again! With Postcrossing, you can easily discover the world. I love to buy and collect beautiful cards from all over the world. Want to know more about this ideal hobby for world travellers? Then read on!
The concept of Postcrossing is very simple: for every card you send, you get one back. You do not know in advance to whom you will send something and from where you will receive a card.
To start your adventure, you first have to sign up on the Postcrossing website. After filling out your address (which will only be visible to the person sending you a card), you can fill out your biography. By clicking on “send a card”, you will get an address to send a card to. Choose a card, write something nice about yourself and put it in the letterbox. Every card you send has a unique code. You write this code on the card, so the recipient can register the card when it arrives. For every registered card, you will get one back!
Discover the world with Postcrossing
After a while, you will build up a nice collection of postcards. I have, for example, already collected cards from Australia, Japan and Spain. It may sometimes take a while before you get a new card or before your card arrives, but that makes it so much fun! On your profile, you can also see a lot of statistics, such as where you have already sent cards, and who has already sent something to you.
Do keep in mind that sending postcards isn’t free. In addition to buying the card itself, you also have to pay for stamps. In Belgium, you’ll pay for example more than a euro for one stamp. Not very cheap, but you can easily manage your costs, since you decide yourself how much you want to send. And for those few euros a month, I think it’s super fun to get cards from abroad!
